Supporting members in their career
We're taking action to support our members in understanding the importance of DEI in their work.
We will:
- Ensure the reach of the Actuarial Mentorship Programme includes those without the advantages of higher socio-economic backgrounds and more generally continues to operate in support of our DEI principles.
- Develop guidance, information and support material to understand the importance of DEI in members’ work and to help them in their careers. This will include clear statements of the rights and responsibilities that go with being an IFoA actuary.
- Develop support material to enable members to meet regulatory expectations and leading practices, and to engage their employers positively in support of their DEI strategies.
- Foster an environment and culture of trust and transparency for our member-led groups.
- Encourage all to behave, think and act in the most inclusive way and to avoid, prevent or reduce (potentially) discriminatory behaviours and culture, whether clear or hidden.
Diversity Action Group (DAG)
The Diversity Action Group (DAG) is committed to supporting the IFoA in developing, delivering and evolving its strategic diversity objectives as set out in its Diversity Strategy and Diversity Action Plan.
In particular, the objectives are to create and support an inclusive environment, to embrace the value of diverse perspectives, and to build awareness and understanding of diversity within the profession for the benefit of our members, the public, and the profession as a whole.

As a profession representing members from a multitude of organisations, we are no less impacted than any other individuals and groups in terms of matters relating to representation and inequities.
I am delighted therefore to see the launch of the IFoA DEI strategy. While I and many others have been ‘doing’ D&I in and around the profession for a number of years, this marks a step change.
