Actuaries Response Group
The Covid-19 Actuaries Response Group (ARG) comprises actuaries, epidemiologists and longevity specialists. Its purpose was to educate, inform and influence actuaries, as well as other audiences, on the many aspects of the pandemic where it could add value and clarity.
The most popular recent content was analysis of hospital admissions, occupancy and mortality, and comparison to the modelling produced by the UK’s SAGE Committee.
The Covid-19 Actuaries Response Group is an outstanding example of how actuaries can help with the biggest challenges. They have shown confidence without arrogance, courage without recklessness, imagination without ignorance.

Continuous Mortality Investigation
The Continuous Mortality Investigation (CMI) carries out research into mortality and morbidity experience.
Over the course of the pandemic it became an indispensable source of evidence and data on Covid-19, helping to shape the fightback against the pandemic.
In the first half of 2021, it accounted for a fifth (20%) of all IFoA mentions in the media, up from 15% in the same period of 2020. This was driven by increased interest in the regular mortality monitor.
Covid-19 video series
A leading example of this commitment to bringing your unique expertise to the global fight against Covid-19 saw CMI member Matthew Edwards produce a series of innovative videos on a range of Covid-19 topics.
By reaching out on social media, nearly 200,000 people were able to benefit from evidence-based actuarial insight on a range of vital pandemic issues.
